We’ve all heard them, online dating stories of the success or failure others have faced. Mention in passing that you’ve signed up for a new online dating site and people feel compelled to share their own experiences, then there are those who make sweeping generalizations that really don’t apply to you.
The truth is that the online dating “stories” you hear from others really aren’t that important in the grand scheme of things because these stories don’t signify anything beyond that one person’s one experience. And people don’t rush to tell you about their best night of unbridled passion with a complete stranger as it’s simply not considered polite conversation.
When interacting with someone online, it’s important to have reasonable expectations, and a recent photograph is a good start. It’s surprising in this day and age that there are still people who attempt to meet others with nothing more than some basic stats. Speaking from experience, always ask a potential date to provide a photo.
Photos are no guarantee of a person’s appearance. We all like to put our best foot forward on our online profiles. You don’t have your worst photo as your profile picture either. Understand that it’s reasonable to expect your date put up their best photo, if they turn out to be even more attractive, great.
Tips for Choosing Online Dating Profile Pictures
When looking to make a connection with a transgender woman, remember that in addition to all of the “normal” variances from one’s profile pics, there are any number of additional variables in play, from hormone and progression on gender reassignment to just looking particularly feminine in her profile picture, while in real life being somewhat less so.
Perhaps the worst thing you can do is listen to the naysayers, or to let a few bad experiences discourage you from making meaningful contact with others. The reality is, stories aside, online dating has grown to become one of the most popular activities there is on the internet, and that simply couldn’t happen if the majority of encounters did not live up to the expectations of the users.
