Priming your face for any beauty look
To quickly recap from my last post “Get the Glow: Skin care Tips”: use your favorite form of facial epilation, use a light exfoliation every other day depending on the coarseness of the cleanser, follow with a once-a-week oatmeal mask, and apply moisturizer.
Once the moisturizer is absorbed into your skin and before you apply your foundation, take a bright orange, matte lipstick (Morange by MAC is commonly used) and apply a very thin layer where you have more hair, such as your cheeks or under your chin. Blend the color with a triangular cosmetic sponge and let it dry a few minutes. The orange colour will neutralize the blue shade of facial hair and help to make your face look smooth and fresh.
After the lipstick-not-on-lips application, be sure to have two foundations in your cabinet, along with a finishing powder. I recommend you start with the Max Factor Pan Stik. It’s thick and creamy and has good coverage. It’s great for discolouration, scarring, and hiding the 5 o’clock shadow along with your orange lipstick base. When using this stick it’s VERY important to not cover your entire face. You don’t want that unnatural stage-look. Using a separate cosmetic sponge, dab the stick and apply along the jawline, chin, above your top lip, and just under your neck. Lightly blend from the center of these areas by lightly sweeping outward. Make sure not to apply thick amounts. Blend the color naturally into the rest of your skin.
Take your time and powder to perfection
For the rest of your face try Maybelline Deam Fresh BB. You’ll want to be sure to get the correct colour that matches your skin tone. This is definitely not a one-shade-suits-all situation, so be sure to ask that cosmetics clerk for help. Squirt one pump on the back of your hand, then dab small dots evenly all over your face. Use another sponge to blend by lightly sweeping and connecting the dots. Fill in the blanks by sweeping every crevice until your skin tone is uniform.
The next VERY important stage is using a light, but full coverage powder. Coty AirSpun Powder is very popular. Apply using the included powder puff or a clean blush brush. A little does a lot here. If you use too much, you’ll get a chalky look to your skin – and that is so not natural!
You should now have a clean, fresh look to your face, creating a base for either a daytime or evening makeup style.
Work on your technique for getting just the right look. This may take time to perfect. Be gentle with yourself and expect mistakes. Ask your girlfriends what they think and be open to their feedback. Remember, you want feel and look natural and feminine in time for your romantic date on Valentine’s Day!
